Screamin' Eagles Defeat Rams, Top-Seeded Middletown Awaits
Seneca Valley's 11-9 win over Rockville propels team to next round.
Seneca Valley kept its season alive Saturday by pulling off its second consecutive come-from-behind win at home, defeating the visiting Rockville Rams, 11-9, in the second round of the Maryland Class 3A/2A lacrosse playoffs.
"We've been a second-half team so far," said Seneca Valley coach John Holt on the team's two most recent wins. "We somehow have managed to settle down and get things going when we need to."
6-foot-3 senior Nick McCarthy led the team with four goals while Drew and Jay Borsody each combined for three more in the winning effort. Drew, the elder Borsody, now has 59 goals on the season, including 54 in the regular season to finish as the county's leading scorer.

Holt said he is pleased with the level of play he has seen from his three offensive stars so far this post-season. "I think we've been incredibly consistent," he said.
Rockville opened the scoring early in the first quarter before McCarthy netted the equalizer later in the quarter. Rockville then took a lead into halftime before Seneca rolled of several goals to start the half and had a four-goal lead at one point. However, the two teams traded goals back-and-forth for the remainder until Seneca was finally able to close it out, 11-9.

Holt said he was surprised that Rockville wasn't pressing more toward the end, but credits his team's solid defense for keeping the Rams out of the net down the stretch.
It was the second time Seneca defeated Rockville this season. The Screamin' Eagles bested the Rams, 15-13, when the two teams collided in March.
Now, the competition with get only tougher for Holt's squad as the Screamin' Eagles will face the region's top-seeded Middletown Knights on Tuesday night in Middletown.
Tom Hawkins' team is 12-1 so far this season after defeating North Hagerstown Saturday and hasn't lost since a 10-5 loss against South Carroll in the season opener in March.
Holt admitted that it will be a test for his team, but he's confident in the way his team has played on the playoffs so far.
