Seneca Valley Boys Lacrosse Advances with 8-7 Win Over Northwood
Seneca Valley defeats Gladiators in first-round game, focuses on second-round meeting with Rockville Saturday
Seneca Valley boys lacrosse coach John Holt admits it wasn't the most attractive his team has looked this season. But he'll take it just the same. Struggling early, the Screamin' Eagles rallied in the second half to defeat the visiting Northwood Gladiators, 8-7, in the first-round of the Maryland Class 3A lacrosse playoffs at Seneca Valley High School.
The 8 goals scored were the lowest for the Screamin' Eagles in a winning effort all year. Still, Holt is not going to get picky at this point in the season.
"I don't think we played as well as we could have," said Holt, whose team defeated Northwood, 10-4, earlier this season as well. "But what's most important is we were able to get it together when we needed to and pull out a win. And that's what matters."

As has been the case all season, Drew Borsody led the way for the Screamin' Eagles in the win with two goals. Borsody, who ended the regular season with 54 goals—including a season-high 10 against Churchill earlier this year—was among the area's most prolific scorers this year. He finished third in the Washington, D.C.,-metro area and also finished in the top 25 in assists with 23.
"It's no secret that Drew is our leader," Holt said. "And he came through for us [Thursday].

Borsody's younger brother Jay, a freshman, also had a pair of goals in the win. Senior Nick McCarthy, the team's second-leading scorer (31) netted two as well.
On the defensive side of the ball, Holt credited senior defensivemen Nickos Leondaridis-Mena as the biggest factor on that side of the field.
Now, the team is gearing up for its second-round game when it hosts Rockville Saturday morning. Seneca defeated the Rams earlier this season, 15-13.
"They definitely gave us some trouble," Holt said, referring to the regular season game on March 29. "They scored a lot of goals on us the first time around. It was earlier in the season, but that's something we'll have to control Saturday."
