Wegmans Customers Donate $1.48M to Hunger Relief
Shoppers at the store's Germantown and Crofton locations raised money for local food banks during the annual campaign.

A record $1.84 million was raised by customers at 51 Wegmans Food Market stores, including the Germantown and Crofton locations, during the companyβs fall 2015 Care About Hunger relief checkout scanning campaign.
The total raised is an 8 percent increase over the fall 2014 campaign.
βWeβre thankful to our customers and employees who so generously share our commitment to making a difference in every community we serve,β said Linda Lovejoy, Wegmans community relations manager. βAs we celebrate our 100th anniversary this year, a special point of pride is the partnerships we build to support local food banks in feeding the hungry.β

Care About Hunger programs in Germantown and Crofton allowed customers to donate $1, $2, $3, $5, or any other amount at checkout with all of the proceeds going to Manna Food Center and the Anne Arundel County Food Bank.
The food banks in Maryland that will receive donations are listed below with the amount raised, and in parentheses, the Wegmans stores that raised money for them:

- Anne Arundel County Food Bank - $5,973 (Crofton)
- Harford Community Action Agency - $10,215 (Bel Air)
- Howard County Community Action Council - $19,138 (Columbia)
- Manna Food Center - $9,833 (Germantown)
- Frederick Community Action Agency - $11,167 (Frederick)
- Maryland Food Bank - $41,109 (Hunt Valley)
- Shabach Ministries and Capital Area Food Bank - $9,006 (Woodmore)
In 2015, all Wegmans stores raised a total of $2.9 million for hunger relief through scanning campaigns, and since these programs began in 1993, Wegmans has raised more than $29 million.
In addition to money raised for emergency food services in 2015, Wegmans also donated approximately 13.5 million pounds of food to local food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens across all of its market areas.
