Driver Of Stolen Vehicle Hit By Car While Fleeing Police: Report

GLEN BURNIE, MD — On June 20 at approximately 11:35 a.m., Anne Arundel County police officers responded to a vehicle theft from the Starbucks at 6653 Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie. The owner of a gold Chevy Equinox reported it stolen from the parking lot. An officer saw the vehicle being driven northbound on Ritchie Highway and activated his emergency equipment in order to stop the Equinox, according to a police report.
The vehicle turned into the Macrotech Parking lot and the driver jumped out and fled. The vehicle was not put into park and continued moving forward, striking a dumpster. The officer saw the suspect running across Ritchie Highway into the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect who told officers that, while fleeing, he was struck by an unknown silver vehicle, according to a police report. Suspect was transported to Harbor Hospital for a minor leg injury. Officers arrested 23-year-old Deontae Daquan Tongue of the 200 block of Kent Road in Glen Burnie.

Officers spied a loaded 9mm handgun in plain sight in the back seat of the vehicle. They also found three heroin capsules and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, according to a police report.

According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, officers arrested the driver, 42-year-old Zachary Rae Freeland of the 300 block of Edward Court in Mebane, N.C.
