Glen Burnie Woman Saved By County's Telephone Reassurance Program

The free program is offered to Anne Arundel seniors and disabled individuals through the county department of aging and disabilities.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities Telephone Reassurance Program saved a Glen Burnie women recently after a daily well-check call made to the isolated older adult revealed she needed medical attention. A staff member was able to identify that something was wrong, notified the authorities and the senior was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“I commend Patty Lortie for her judgement and quick thinking that resulted in getting life-saving measures to this client,” Karrisa Gouin, acting director of the department of aging and disabilities, told Bay Times Record & Observer. “Typically these daily calls provide much needed socialization and well checks but there are times, such in this case, that the calls save lives. This gives family members the peace of mind to know their loved ones are not alone.”

Lortie was the individual who made contact with the Glen Burnie senior and discovered she needed medical assistance.

“This program is invaluable for our clients,” said Lortie. “We are sending positive thoughts for our client’s recovery.”

The Telephone Reassurance Program, a free service offered through the county department of aging and disabilities to Anne Arundel County residents, checks in on adults 55 and older, as well as individuals with disabilities. Seniors are contacted daily. To register for the program, call 410-222-6713.
