GLEN BURNIE, MD — For more than 100 years, people have flocked to Glen Burnie for its huge annual celebration. This year would've been the 112th such event, but much to people's chagrin, the show will not go on as planned.

The 2020 Big Glen Burnie Carnival sponsored by the Glen Burnie Improvement Association has been canceled due to health concerns surrounding the coronavirus virus. Organizers explained that it was a "difficult decision" to make, but that guests' and volunteers' safety "is and always has been our number one priority."

"The uncertainty of when large events will be permitted to open along with social distancing protocols also... had a significant impact on this decision. At this time, we cannot even get a permit to hold the event," organizers stated on the event's Facebook page. "...we share the disappointment of all those who look forward to The Big Glen Burnie Carnival. Your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time is appreciated more than words can say. We look forward to seeing everyone next summer."
