Pedestrian Hit By Van In Glen Burnie Expected To Survive: Police
A Brooklyn man hit by a van while crossing Crain Highway in Glen Burnie is expected to survive his serious injuries, police say.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A Brooklyn man who was hit by a van while walking across Crain Highway in Glen Burnie is expected to survive his serious injuries, Anne Arundel County Police say. The accident happened about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 23 at Crain Hwy (MD-3) and Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard (MD-648).
Investigators say a 2008 Chevrolet van driven by John Egan, 71, of Glen Burnie, entered the intersection against a red traffic signal and struck a pedestrian who was in the marked crosswalk. The pedestrian — Craig L. Johnson, 33, of Brooklyn — was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma with critical injuries, but is expected to recover. Neither Egan nor his passenger, Deborah A. Egan, 68, of Glen Burnie, was hurt.
The primary cause of the crash was Egan's failure to stop for a red traffic signal, police said. Other likely factors may have been the darkness and light rain/mist. There is no indication that alcohol or speed were a cause, police said. Whether charges are filed will be decided after review by the State’s Attorney.
