Traffic Alert: One Lane Closed on Ritchie Highway

Crews are working to replace soil that washed out under southbound MD 2 during last week's record rains.

Drivers who use Ritchie Highway between Annapolis and the Baltimore area will encounter a lane closure as repairs are made to a section of the right shoulder under southbound MD 2 (Ritchie Highway).

The State Highway Administration says a section of road over a tributary to Lake Waterford before MD 10 has eroded and repairs are under way.

Crews have closed the right lane and right shoulder to make repairs necessitated by the damage from last week’s record-setting rains. The closure could last through mid-week, so drivers should plan on extra travel time on MD 2 through Pasadena.

SHA engineers inspected the concrete structure along MD 2 at Lake Waterford tributary and determined that soil under the bridge abutments washed out. Beginning Monday evening, crews will grout the concrete structure, backfill with stone and resurface under the right lane and shoulder.

About 24,000 motorists travel on MD 2 in this location each day. Drivers may consider MD 10 to southbound Ritchie Highway to stay south of the repair location.
