As the remnants of Hurricane Ida move through the area, the City’s hearts are with the families tragically impacted by this storm. City of Greenbelt crews continue to check City storm drains to make sure that they are clear of debris and functioning properly. City crews cleared gravel debris on Ridge Road from a non-City gravel road and continue to make sure City streets are clear.

The City also ordered that fuel pumps be closed at a local fuel station due to significant structural damage to the canopy located above the pumps. An assessment is underway to help repair the structure and restore safety.

Employees have been monitoring Greenbelt Lake Dam. This work started before the storm and included contact with the County given its primary role in stormwater management. Staff also reached out to the State to request monitoring of State Road MD 193/Greenbelt Road.

City staff also inspected flooding outside of an apartment complex. Given previous flooding, flooded basement apartments had already been deemed uninhabitable by the City and were not occupied.  Staff viewed the interior conditions, talked with residents, and spoke with property management. A company is onsite that is actively pumping and draining water. The City is in on-going communication with the property owner regarding impacted residents’ needs and the safety.

Any individuals or families experiencing a flood-related crisis please call 311 at any time. To report an emergency call 911 or use the direct Greenbelt Police Emergency Line, 301-474-5454.

We encourage you to contact the call center at 311 if you experience flooding, downed trees near your home, or if you lose power. Sign up for local alerts and warnings at alert.mypgc.us.
