A full-scale emergency response drill is planned at Greenbelt Station from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, at Greenbelt Station, according to a WMATA news release.
During the exercise, emergency responders will simulate the evacuation of passengers from a Green Line train that is disabled on the tracks outside of Greenbelt. Metro Transit Police, Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department, Prince George’s County Police, Greenbelt Police and the American Red Cross also will participate in the exercise.

Greenbelt Station will remain open to customers during the exercise; however, riders will notice a large presence of emergency responders and equipment. Customers traveling to or from Greenbelt Station on Sunday morning should follow directional signage.
Earlier this week the station was closed for several hours while repairs to the Green Line tracks when a pedestrian bridge collapsed on them.

Sunday’s drill will test the response and incident coordination of fire and emergency medical services personnel, working with Metro operations, transit police and support personnel.
The exercise is the first in a series of quarterly full-scale drills scheduled to improve responder training in the wake of the January L’Enfant Plaza smoke incident that killed one person and hospitalized 84 others.
Subsequent exercises this year will take place in the District of Columbia and Virginia.
