📰 News we're reading

1. NASA Goddard Seeks Industry Input on GSMO-4 Contract (govconwire.com) — NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt is asking industry for ideas on how to structure its next big space mission operations contract, GSMO-4, which supports missions like James Webb and GOES. Officials are weighing a shift toward more fixed-price, performance-based payments and catalog-style pricing, changes that could influence local contractors, jobs, and long-term work tied to Goddard's flagship science missions.

2. What's your type… of trail? (ggwash.org) — Trail lovers in and around Greenbelt will recognize their own backyard-style paths as this piece breaks down the many types of multi-use trails across the Washington region. Using Old Greenbelt as a key example, it explains how different trail designs—from neighborhood greenways to rail-trails and canal towpaths—shape everyday walking and biking experiences and connect communities in distinct ways.

3. Former Government Official Sentenced in Bribery Conspiracy (crweworld.com) — A federal bribery case tied to General Services Administration construction contracts just resulted in a three-year prison sentence handed down at the U.S. District Court in Greenbelt. Prosecutors say former contracting officer's representative Lennie Lamont Miller steered federal project work to favored companies in exchange for cash, repairs, and even a sports car. Additional co-conspirators have pleaded guilty and await sentencing.

4. NASA Selects PRIMA (PRobe far-Infrared Mission for Astrophysics) Far-Infrared Telescope as First in New Mission Class (astrobiology.com) — NASA's newly selected PRIMA space telescope will be managed by Jet Propulsion Laboratory, but key work will also involve NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, tying local scientists to a major new astrophysics mission. Scheduled for a planned 2033 launch, PRIMA will study the far‑infrared universe to better understand how planets, galaxies, and black holes form and evolve.

5. Arctic Sea Ice Ties for 10th-Lowest Summer Minimum as Antarctic Ice Likely Peaks at Third-Lowest (natureworldnews.com) — A NASA sea ice scientist based at Goddard in Greenbelt explains how increased cloud cover has recently slowed, but not reversed, the long-term decline of Arctic sea ice.
