• Alger Sentenced to More than a Decade in Federal Prison Following Child Sex Convictions (panhandlenewsnetwork.com) — A Hagerstown man has been sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison, plus lifetime supervised release, for coercing minors in Ecuador to engage in sexual activity online. The case, announced with support from Hagerstown Police and Washington County prosecutors, is part of a national effort to combat child exploitation and includes resources for families on staying safe online.
   

• Local historian chronicles Washington County's role in national civil rights gains (dcnewsnow.com) — Hagerstown historian Ed Maliskas is spotlighting Washington County's surprising ties to national civil rights milestones, including a 1951 Elks meeting he says helped inspire Rosa Parks' bus boycott.
