Canoeist Still Missing on Susquehanna River: Officials
Boat capsized Tuesday night near Port Deposit.

One boater remains missing after a canoe containing two men capsized in the Susquehanna River Tuesday night, officials said Wednesday.
Jacob Nicholas Nolan, 22, of Port Deposit, was one of two boaters in a canoe that overturned when it was hit by a strong gust of wind about 30 minutes after dark Tuesday, according to Candy Thomson, spokeswoman for the Maryland Natural Resources Police.

Before 10 p.m. Tuesday, the Water Witch Volunteer Fire Company was called to the area between Lee’s Landing and the Lapidum boat launch, where its rescuers reported they saw a light in the water.
The crew found one man holding onto a cooler and hoisted him onto the rescue boat, then took him to shore for medical evaluation, according to the Water Witch Volunteer Fire Company.

Matthew Flowers Trainor, 22, of Port Deposit, was rescued by the Water Witch crew at 10:43 p.m., Thomson said.
Trainor told investigators that when the wind hit and the boat tipped, both he and Nolan tried to find something to hold onto, according to Thomson.
Trainor grabbed ahold of a cooler, which had his cell phone attached to it in a plastic bag, and he used that to call his wife and alert authorities that they were in need of rescue, Thomson said.
At some point, Trainor lost contact with Nolan, and emergency personnel have been trying to find him ever since.
On Wednesday, Natural Resources Police divers used side-scan sonar to search for Nolan but had not found him as of Wednesday night.
