Collectors Corner: Candlewick Glassware
Have you ever seen the glassware with beads of glass around the edge? This is called Candlewick and was made by the Imperial Glass Company.

Have you ever seen the glassware with beads of glass around the edge? It is usually clear but occasionally you can find a rare piece made of colored glass. This is called Candlewick and was made by the Iperial Glass Company from 1936 to 1982.
Why do they call it Candlewick?
The name comes from a colonial era sewing technique. There was a shortage of material during colonial times, so unbleached muslin was often used and embellished with embroidery using cotton wick from candle making. This was primarily used on bedspreads and pillows. The beaded edge of this glassware pattern inspired the name “Candlewick” because of the resemblance to this old time sewing technique.
Candlewick variety
Candlewick was the most prolific line of glassware from Imperial Glass. This pattern can be found in a vast number of shapes and sizes! To collect everything made in this pattern would be a lifetime goal!
