Divorce Finalized for Cal Ripken Jr.: Report

Cal and Kelly Ripken officially called it quits on Thursday, marking an end to their 30-year marriage.

BALTIMORE, MD – Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. and his wife Kelly have officially gotten a divorce, according to reports.

The "Iron Man"—best known for playing a record 2,632 consecutive games with the Baltimore Orioles—had been married to wife Kelly Ripken for approximately 30 years.

The pair married in 1987 and have two children together, 22-year-old Ryan and 26-year-old Rachel, according to The Washington Post, which reported her attorney said that Kelly and Cal Ripken Jr. have been separated for a while.

Kelly Ripken's lawyer released a statement to the media saying she has been a "great mother to two fabulous children and a wonderful, faithful wife..."

The family asked for privacy after the divorce.

Cal Ripken Jr., who was born in Havre de Grace and raised in Aberdeen, played shortstop and third base for Orioles from 1981 to 2001. He is one of just eight MLB players to record at least 3,000 hits and 400 home runs in his career.

Ripken was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007 in his first year of eligibility. Since leaving baseball, he has focused his efforts on Ripken Baseball Inc. and the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation.

According to a statement provided to The Washingon Post, Kelly Ripken said she plans to concentrate on nonprofit organizations, specifically those specializing in women's health issues. She has reportedly struggled with Graves' disease, which causes hypothyroidism.
