2 Hospitalized From Havre de Grace House Fire: Officials

Two people were taken to Harford Memorial Hospital after a house fire Monday morning in Havre de Grace, officials said.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A homeowner and a firefighter were both taken to the hospital Monday morning following a house fire in Havre de Grace, according to officials, who credited a smoke alarm with saving those inside the residence.

At 4:49 a.m., fire broke out in the living room of a home in the 700 block of North Adams Street, investigators said.

Four people were inside the house at the time — the husband and wife who owned the house and their son and daughter-in-law — according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Once the smoke alarm alerted them to the fire, everyone was able to get out safely. About 40 firefighters responded and controlled the blaze within 15 minutes, the fire marshal reported.

One firefighter from the Susquehanna Hose Company was taken to Harford Memorial Hospital for medical issues, and the woman who owned the home with her husband was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, according to authorities.

Structural damage was estimated to be $100,000, while investigators said about $50,000 worth of items inside the home were also lost.

Harford County Disaster Assistance is providing help for the resident, officials said.

The fire originated in the living room, but the exact cause remains under investigation, the fire marshal reported Monday morning.
