HAVRE DE GRACE, MD – The Havre de Grace Library will begin a new chapter this month.

After being in a temporary location on Market Street since October 2014, the library will reopen in its Union Avenue home base on Wednesday, June 15.

Designed by Manns Woodward Studios, the new library offers a meeting room that can accommodate 100 people on the first floor, in addition to library administrators and a gallery space, while the second floor houses the library's collection, surrounded by reading nooks and including a children's area. A covered balcony is also built into the design.

Local businesses have pledged their support for the new library, which was designed to meet the needs of a growing, technologically evolving audience.

This is the fourth iteration of the library's quarters. The first Havre de Grace Library branch opened more than 50 years ago in the old Opera House. In 1960, it moved into what is now the Havre de Grace Visitors Center.

The branch on Union at Pennington avenues was constructed in 1987 and demolished in the past two years to allow for the reconstruction of the new library.
