Groundbreaking Marks New Chapter for Havre de Grace Library
The library on Union Avenue will grow from one story to two, and nearly double in square footage.

Lawkmakers and library officials attended the Havre de Grace Library groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday on Union Avenue.
The old building was demolished last month, and a temporary location is set up on Market Street.
When complete, the new branch will be two stories and encompass 15,000 square feet; the old building was one story and 8,400 square feet.

Built in 1987, the old building on Union at Pennington avenues was not sufficient to accommodate the community it serves; for example, it housed 68,000 books and audiovisual items, while it was designed to hold 30,000 volumes.
Construction is expected to last approximately 18 months, officials said previously.
