Hatem Bridge Traffic Stop Nets Drugs, Loaded Handgun: Police

A loaded gun, cocaine and other drugs were among the items found during a traffic stop on the Hatem Bridge, police reported.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A Delaware man was charged with drug, theft and weapons offenses recently as the result of a traffic stop near Havre de Grace. He had been driving a stolen vehicle on the Hatem Memorial Bridge, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.

Jerome P. Johnson, 52, of Wilmington, Delaware, was stopped in a 2018 Nissan Altima, police said.

Officials reported finding a loaded handgun, Carisoperodol, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, hallucinogenic mushrooms and Xanax when they pulled him over.

Johnson was charged with the following:

  • Two counts of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle
  • Five counts of possession of drugs other than marijuana
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Theft under $25,000
  • Having a handgun in a vehicle

Johnson was arrested Sunday, July 22, and taken to the Harford County Detention Center.

Court records show he was released on Monday, July 23, after posting $7,500 bond.
