Havre de Grace Mayor Swears in New City Attorney

The new city attorney for Havre de Grace is related to the previous city attorney, who was appointed to the Harford County Circuit Court.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A new city attorney with a familiar last name was sworn in at the Havre de Grace City Council meeting Tuesday evening. April Ishak will take over as city attorney after her husband, Paul Ishak, received a judicial appointment.

In early December, Paul Ishak was appointed to sit on the Harford County Circuit Court by Gov. Larry Hogan. He is partner at Stark and Keenan representing individuals and small businesses who previously clerked for Judge Stephen M. Waldron of the circuit court. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park and his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law.

April Ishak is also an attorney at Stark and Keenan. She focuses on business law, civil litigation and estate law. She received her bachelor's and law degrees from Rutgers University.

Mayor Bill Martin recommended April Ishak for the job at the city council's Dec. 19 meeting, and it was unanimously supported. Tuesday's council meeting was Paul Ishak's last and April Ishak's first as city attorney. He served as city attorney for nearly 15 years.
