HdG Among 10 Best Small Towns On Chesapeake Bay: Coastal Living

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Coastal Living rated the best 10 small towns on the Chesapeake Bay, and several in Maryland made the cut. Among them was Havre de Grace, located in northeastern Harford County at the confluence of the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay.

The magazine selected six towns in Maryland and four in Virginia that offer the small-town feel as well as wide-ranging experiences, like a trolley tour to the historic battlefield where the end of the Revolutionary War played out in Yorktown, Virginia, or the boutiques and restaurants of St. Michaels in Maryland.

Among the things making Havre de Grace special are the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum, Concord Point Lighthouse, Bulle Rock Golf Course and Susquehanna State Park, according to the magazine.

Here is what Coastal Living said about Havre de Grace:

"There’s a bit of kitsch to this town (it’s the duck decoy capital of the world, according to a museum that houses more than 3,000 of them), which ultimately makes it all the more charming. Perched at the northernmost tip of the Bay, Havre de Grace (named after a French seaport) is home to the oldest publicly accessible lighthouse on the Bay, a nationally ranked golf course, and a state park with 15 miles of hiking and wildlife trails.

• Cambridge in Dorchester County
• Chesapeake City in Cecil County
• Easton in Talbot County
• Rock Hall in Kent County
• St. Michaels in Talbot County

Coastal Living also deemed Virginia's bayfront hamlets of Cape Charles, Onancock, Urbanna and Yorktown among the best small towns on the Chesapeake Bay.
