HdG Councilwoman Running For Delegate

HdG City Councilwoman Monica Worrell will be a candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates in 2018.

From Councilwoman Monica Worrell: Monica Worrell, Havre de Grace City Councilwoman and past Harford County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, announced her candidacy as a Republican candidate for MD House of Delegate for District 34A, Thursday morning to a packed house of supporters at Water’s Edge Event and Conference Center.

“I believe that public service is a calling and citizenship demands responsibility,” explained Worrell when asked why she chose to run for higher office. She has been serving as an elected official, since first being elected to Havre de Grace City Council in 2015. “My goal as a Delegate will be to ensure that Harford County is remembered in Annapolis and make certain we bring back our fair share of earned tax dollars towards project and programs that benefit our County.”

Worrell is currently the Marketing Director and Patient Relations Manager for Advanced Eye Care & Aesthetics located in Bel Air, MD. Prior to that, she served as the Chief Spokesperson and Public Information Officer for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office from 2007 until 2012.

Ms. Worrell spent the majority of her career working in the hotel and restaurant industry. During this time, she served as a community advocate and leader for several State, County and City Boards and Commissions. The list includes Route 40 Business Association President; Harford County Chamber of Commerce; Havre de Grace Chamber of Commerce; Harford County Economic Development Advisory Board; Havre de Grace Economic Development Advisory Board; Susquehanna Workforce Network; Harford Leadership Academy Board, Alumni and Ambassador Committee; Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association; Chesapeake Professional Women’s’ Network; Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County; Harford County Tourism; Havre de Grace Tourism Commission; Harford Sheriffs Foundation; Maryland Tourism Council; Governor’s Tourism Signage Committee and Harford County, Boys & Girls Club of Harford County, Harford County Education Foundation (formerly GEEF) and the Harford County YMCA of Maryland.

“I believe, my life experiences working and living along the Route 40 corridor makes me uniquely qualified to serve as District 34A Delegate,” stated Worrell. “I know firsthand that despite the diversity in the communities of Havre de Grace, Aberdeen, Belcamp, Riverside, Edgewood and Joppatowne, we share a common thread. We love this area, choose to live and/or work here and care about this area’s future. We are committed to our community’s success and striving to make a difference.”

Worrell identified her vision for Maryland is to maintain and improve the quality of life for our citizens by assuring responsible growth; promoting economic and tourism development; working to eradicate the opiod epidemic. She is committed to protecting our citizens and providing the necessary support for our law enforcement and emergency responders; providing a quality education for our children and attending to the challenges faced with the rising costs of infrastructure; all the while always striving to ensure our State’s fiscal stability and growth.

Worrell lives in Havre de Grace with her husband of 30 years, David. She has two grown sons, Daniel and Christopher. Worrell will continue to serve in her current capacity as a Havre de Grace City Councilwoman while campaigning for House of Delegates. The primary election is Tuesday, June 26, 2018. If elected in the primary, she will continue on to the General Election in November 2018 for an opportunity to earn one of two available seats in District 34A.
