HdG Honors Veterans, Dedicates Flagpole

The Veterans Day ceremony in Havre de Grace had two parts, at Veterans Park and Tydings Park.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The city of Havre de Grace recognized Veterans Day on Sunday with a ceremony and flagpole dedication. American Legion members, Major General Vollmecke, County Executive Barry Glassman, Havre de Grace Mayor Bill Martin, County Council Member Curtis Beulah and other community members were in attendance.

The day began with the dedication of the flagpole in Veterans Park to Noble Mentzer, a Havre de Grace veteran who died in May at the age of 90. He spent his life in service others, as a member of both the Army and Navy, the Susquehanna Hose Company and other organizations.

Following the 10 a.m. flagpole dedication, the city hosted an 11 a.m. wreath laying ceremony in Tydings Park in collaboration with the American Legion Post #47. Vollmecke was the guest speaker at the event.
