HdG Mayor Orders Election Postponed From May 5
The city's election is usually the first Tuesday in May. Due to the coronavirus and guidance around social distancing, it will be delayed.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The Havre de Grace municipal election will be postponed, Mayor William T. Martin announced Tuesday. According to the city charter, the city's elections are held the first Tuesday in May each year. This year that was May 5.
"In the interest of public health and to comply with social distancing orders, I have issued executive order 2020-03, which will temporarily postpone the 2020 city election," Martin said Tuesday. "Once a new date has been identified, the city will post the date, time and details on its website."
Information will also be shared through social media outlets, newspapers and by robocall.

The Havre de Grace City Council approved a charter amendment at its April 20 meeting enabling the city to "postpone its election until 60 days after the state of emergency is lifted by the governor or sooner if the city can safely hold an election and comply with social distancing guidelines," Martin said.
In issuing his order postponing the election, Martin cited the state of emergency in Havre de Grace, Harford County and Maryland. The mayor also noted that Gov. Larry Hogan issued an executive order enabling municipalities to suspend elections to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. The virus is transmitted through respiratory droplets when people are gathered in proximity, particularly if they are less than 6 feet apart.
