You’ve been down this path before: deadlines at work, terrible traffic to and from, juggling your kids’ sports schedules, loads of laundry, no milk in the frig, and your cat just threw up all over the new carpet. You can feel it coming a mile away – the headache that just won’t quit.
Headaches can be brought on by a number of factors – stress, hormone imbalance, diet. You can reduce the chances of them occurring by lessening tension in your neck and shoulders, alleviating life stress, addressing hormone imbalances, and reducing negative emotions like anger and frustration. If you experience frequent headaches, try keeping a log to see if you can detect any patterns that lead to your headaches. Please remember that if you ever experience a sudden, severe headache unlike any you’ve experienced before, seek medical attention immediately.
Here are some ideas from my friends at Natural Touch Marketing:

1. Muscle tension is often the culprit in chronic headaches. Massage is one of the most effective methods of relaxing muscles.
2. Frequent, gentle stretching of the neck and shoulders can also help relieve muscle tension.

3. Exercise, whether aerobic, yoga, tai chi, or some other activity may help reduce your stress and tension.
4. Drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet can help keep your system in balance.
5. If you work at a desk, make sure your computer is set up correctly to prevent eyestrain and strain on your neck muscles. Seek help from your ergonomic department at work or ask your massage therapist for more information.
6. Stress counseling may help you learn to relax and let go of things you can’t control.
If you are experiencing daily headaches, remember to have your eyes checked. Eye strain often causes headaches. Even if you already wear glasses, you might want to consider getting a prescription that you use for working on the computer. My husband wears glasses all the time. He has a pair he uses only at work. The prescription has been adjusted so that he can see properly for the distance he sits from the computer screen, which is quite different than the distance he holds a book from his eyes to read.
In this hectic world we live in, it is imperative we keep our heads on straight!
Until next time,
