Industrial Fire at Port Deposit Plant Causes $150K in Damage: Fire Marshal
Fire broke out at a sand and gravel plant in Cecil County early Wednesday morning, officials reported.

PORT DEPOSIT, MD - An industrial fire at a sand and gravel plant in Port Deposit caused $150,000 in damage to the facility overnight, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
At 3:01 a.m. on Wednesday, an employee on the overnight crew at York Building Products discovered smoke coming from a tower, where authorities said the fire originated from the vibrating shaker/screen.
Approximately 30 firefighters responded to the 1000 block of Belvedere Road, where the blaze took about one hour to bring under control, according to the fire marshal. Perryville, Water Witch and the Susquehanna Hose Company were among those dispatched to put out the blaze.

Investigators determined that welding embers ignited nearby items, including the rubber conveyor belt feeding the shaker/screen.
There was $150,000 in structural damage as a result of the blaze, the fire marshal reported.
