Maryland Comptroller Recognizes Susquehanna Hose Company
Comptroller Peter Franchot celebrated the Havre de Grace firefighters for their quick response.

A state official stopped by one of the five firehouses in Havre de Grace recently to congratulate the Susquehanna Hose Company for its quick response to citizens in distress.
Comptroller Peter Franchot presented a special medallion to Susquehanna Hose Company President Charles Packard.
Franchot presented a proclamation to the fire company as a whole for having the “Fastest Volunteers in the Nation.”

The Harford County Government presented a proclamation to the hose company at its 2007 banquet honoring it for its quick response time, according to the Susquehanna Hose Company.
Nationally, response times are under 5 minutes in more than 50 percent of cases, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. The hose company, which has responded to every call in its jurisdiction for decades, has a response time ”generally under 3 minutes,” the city of Havre de Grace reported in its comprehensive plan for 2010.

To accept the proclamation for the fire company’s fast service, members of the Susquehanna Hose Company joined Franchot along with his Elkton staffer Steve Mumford, Harford County Councilwoman Mary Ann Lisanti, Susquehanna Hose Company Vice President Franklin Hawley, Susquehanna Hose Company President Charles Packard, Havre de Grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty and former Havre de Grace City Councilman Joe Smith.
