Route 40 Laundry Room Fire Was Arson, Fire Marshal Says

Building fire on Pulaski Highway was reported Tuesday, officials report.

Charges are pending against someone who allegedly set a trash can on fire inside a building along Route 40 in Havre de Grace, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

At 8:51 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, an employee at the three-story apartment building in the 700 block of Pulaski Highway noticed flames and smoke coming from the laundry room, the fire marshal reported.

Ten firefighters from the Susquehanna Hose Company responded, bringing the fire under control within five minutes, the report said.

The fire marshal determined the fire started in the trash can and had been intentionally set.

The suspect was identified and is being charged, the fire marshal reported Thursday.

The blaze caused approximately $150 in structural damage; and $50 worth of items inside were lost as well, the fire marshal reported.
