'Shark' Spotted Feet from Havre de Grace Promenade

A Havre de Grace Patch reader shared pics of what appeared to be a shark sighting.

Have you ever seen a shark off the shores of Havre de Grace?

Doug Hathaway shared this pic of what he said was a shark he spotted this week near Tydings Park. It was feet from the Promenade.

He said he saw the creature at 6:55 p.m. on Monday, April 20.

Is it a shark? Several readers on the Havre de Grace Patch Facebook page said they did not believe it. One man said he had seen it and “It’s a log, people, it’s a log.”

It’s not unheard of for sharks to hang near the parks in Havre de Grace.

Three boys caught a 2-foot shark at Jean Roberts Park in August 1999, The Record reported.

The Department of Natural Resources reports that spiny dogfish shark are around from November to April. There are 11 other types of sharks that are occasionally found in the Chesapeake Bay; find out more about them from the Chesapeake Bay Program.
