Speed Cameras To Go In Near Tydings Bridge

The speed cameras will be installed on Interstate 95 to slow drivers in work zones in Cecil County.

CECIL COUNTY, MD — Speed cameras are coming to Interstate 95 in Cecil County. The cameras will be installed on both the north and southbound portions of I-95 between the Tydings Bridge and the Delaware state line, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Once they are installed, the speed cameras will begin operating Monday, July 8, officials said.

Warnings will be given for those going at least 77 mph.

The speed limit on this stretch of I-95 is 65 mph, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority, and violations start at 12 mph over the limit. Officials said a "speed trailer" will be posted to alert drivers of their current speed as they go by.

Once the warning period is up, ticketing will begin for violators Monday, July 29. Violations lead to a $40 fine.

The camera installments are part of a $14 million project to rehabilitate bridges — replacing joints, resurfacing pavement, making repairs and otherwise improving decks — in Cecil County. According to the Maryland Transportation Authority, the goal is to protect those working on the highway by forcing drivers to slow down near work zones.
