Veteran-Only Parking Available In Havre de Grace

Veterans in Havre de Grace now have special parking spots.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Veterans have their own parking spots in Havre de Grace. It is one of several steps the city has taken to honor those who have served the country.

The city announced Saturday that it was setting aside six veteran-only parking spots.

"With less than a week before Thanksgiving, we would like to take this moment to express our great appreciation for our nation's veterans," according to a statement from the city.

"In comparison to the tremendous sacrifice our service members have made, these parking spots are just a small gesture of appreciation and sign of respect from the Citizens of Havre de Grace to the men and women who have served our nation," the city stated. "Thank you for your service."

According to the 2018 U.S. Census, there were 1,463 veterans in Havre de Grace — a city with fewer than 13,800 residents — from 2014 to 2017.

To celebrate its citizens who have served, the city this year hosted a Veterans Day Parade on Nov 11, organized by the Joseph L. Davis American Legion Post 47.

In 2018, it unveiled the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument at Concord Point Park, dedicated to families who lost a loved one in service to the United States.

The city also opened Veterans Park behind Citizens Care in 2015 to honor living veterans and those who have passed away.

Harford County had the second-highest concentration of veterans among jurisdictions in the state, based on this data based on the 2008 U.S. Census compiled by Harford County:

The largest employer in Harford County is Aberdeen Proving Ground, a military installation that has 21,000 employees, according to the Maryland Department of Commerce.
