Warriors Head for State Championship After 1A Playoff Win

The Warriors handily beat the Red Storm Friday night in the MPSSAA state semifinals.

The Havre de Grace Warriors have made it once again to the state football championship in class 1A in the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association (MPSSAA).

The Warriors beat the Edmondson-Westside Red Storm Friday night, 31-14, in the state semifinals, according to the MPSSAA.

During the game, the Warriors tied a state record for field goals, according to the Warriors Athletics.

For the state 1A title, Havre de Grace will take on the winner of Saturday's matchup between Kent County and Fort Hill, which was the latter. That means Havre de Grace will meet the Sentinels for the second year in a row.

In 2015 the Warriors met the Fort Hill Sentinels in the state championship, which the Cumberland team has claimed now for three consecutive years. Last year the Sentinels beat the Warriors, 44-14.

The 2016 state final will be at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.
