Middle School Spanish classes at St. Paul's School for Girls celebrate the Day of the Three Kings
El Día de los Reyes Magos
By January 6, el Día de los Reyes Magos (the Day of the Three Kings/Wise Men), Gaspar, Balthazar, and Melchior have made their way to children's homes, bearings gifts and treats of every kind. In most Spanish-speaking countries, the Three Kings bring the gifts to the children as they go on their way to see Baby Jesus. In preparation for the visit of the Three Kings, children place their shoes with straw, carrots, and fruits for the horses and camels that carry the Kings. In appreciation, the Three Kings traditionally leave a few small gifts in the shoes for the kind and thoughtful children.
Students in Señora Diver’s middle school classes left their shoes outside of their classroom door during their Spanish classes, and by the end of the period the "Kings" had visited and placed little authentic knick-knacks and other goodies in their shoes, such as candy, hand-women purses and bracelets. The girls were happy and surprised to receive their treats.
