Baltimore Sun: Exxon to Pay Over $1.5 billion to Jacksonville Residents

In 2006, around 26,000 gallons of gas leaked into groundwater in Jacksonville.

After losing a bid to only pay compensatory damages for a 2006 gasoline leak in Jacksonville, Exxon-Mobile was ordered on Thursday to pay over $1.5 billion in punitive damages to Jacksonville residents, according to the Baltimore Sun. 

In 2006, around 26,000 gallons of gasoline leaked from an Exxon station in Jacksonville into groundwater, contaminating wells. Hundreds of homes in the area were affected.
