Broken Oil Line Forces School Bus Evacuation

The incident occurred on I-83, between Shawan and Belfast Roads, in Sparks.

Baltimore County firefighters evacuated elementary school students Wednesday from a school bus that appeared to be on fire as it traveled along I-83 near Sparks.

The bus was originally thought to be on fire, but firefighters determined an oil line break had resulted in a large amount of smoke, according to a press release sent out by the Baltimore County Fire Department.

The first and second grade students were transported from the scene by fire personnel Fire officials initially said the students were from Roland Park Elementary school, but Baltimore City public school officials said the school bus is not a city school bus. Fire officials later clarified their comments and said the students are from an elementary school in Roland Park.

Fire officials said there were no reported injuries.

Roland Park Elementary School officials were not available for comment. A spokeswoman for the city schools, Edie House-Foster, said, "It wasn't one of ours."
