This year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will, once more, hand out statuettes to the best and brightest work we saw on the big screen during the previous calendar year.  The Oscars are but one of a number of awards that filmmakers can win during the season, but many would consider them the highest honor as well.  Seth MacFarlane is hosting the ceremony.

The red carpet is ready for the 85th Annual Academy Awards and the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles California, The Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. The 85th Academy Awards, hosted by Seth MacFarlane, and the Red carpet coverage will begins at 7 PM ET.

This year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will, once more, hand out statuettes to the best and brightest work we saw on the big screen during the previous calendar year.  The Oscars are but one of a number of awards that filmmakers can win during the season, but many would consider them the highest honor as well.  Seth MacFarlane is hosting the ceremony.

The red carpet is rolled out and ready for Tinseltowns finest to strut and preen before the Oscars show, widely seen as one of the least predictable in recent memory following a bumper movie year. This marks the continuation of Don Mischer Productions’ multi-faceted relationship with the Academy, which includes producing the Oscars red carpet pre-show and producing the annual Governors Awards.

It’s the most highly-anticipated of all the film industry ceremonies, when only the most A of A-listers grace the red carpet in their finest of clothes. This year the competition has been fierce, with a number of films battling it out for the coveted Best Picture statuette. Argo is said to be the frontrunner for the category, despite the fact that its director Ben Affleck was snubbed for the Best Director category.

In the first of roughly eight million five hundred thousand and forty two deadlines that have to be met for the 85th Annual Academy Awards (being held Sunday February 24, 2013), today the official screen credit forms are due.  This provides us (and the Academy) with the final listing of whom is eligible to win what. Hugh Jackman hosts the 81st Annual Academy Awards.  Producers Larry Mark and Bill Condon expect to make some dramatic changes to the show as well as lots of surprises.

But equally Steven Spielberg’s historical epic Lincoln and Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables are strong contenders for Best Picture. It’s been declared that Spielberg will most likely take the Best Director trophy and it seems like a forgone conclusion that Lincoln’s star, Daniel Day-Lewis, will take to the stage to be the first ever person to win three Best Actor Oscars.

The Best Actress nominations include 86-year-old Emmanuelle Riva and nine-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis, but slightly edging ahead of all the nominees is Silver Linings Playbook star Jennifer Lawrence. Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones and Christoph Waltz have all turned in Oscar-worthy performances, but only one can win in the hotly-contested Best Supporting Actor category.

Meanwhile Michael Haneke's Amour is sure to take the Best Foreign Language Film and it’s also up for Best Original Screenplay, although Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained might just pip it to the post.  The Original Song will clearly be Adele's powerful James Bond anthem Skyfall, which is likely to become the first 007 tune to win an Oscar.  Tonight Adele will also be taking to the stage to perform her hit as part of a James Bond 50th anniversary tribute. 

This will be Mischer’s third consecutive year as director of the Oscars. He has served as producer as well as director on the 83rd and 84th Academy Awards and was nominated for Emmys for directing both shows. Last year’s Oscars received eight Emmy nominations, the most for any TV special. Do you know how during the Oscars ceremony they roll that package about the awards handed out at the Scientific and Technical Awards Dinner?  Yes, well, this is that awards dinner.  The main awards ceremony is in another two weeks, but don't let that fool you -- these awards are no joke and reward some very deserving individuals.

The 85th annual Academy Award director will be Don Micher, this will mark his third consecutive year. The 85th annual Academy Award will take place at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday, February 24, 2013. This event will be televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.
