The dream of horse ownership is one shared by many, but
realized by few. The Maryland Agricultural Resource Council (MARC) is trying to change that. Whether you are interested in just learning more about these
majestic animals, have a passion to become a skilled rider, or are interested in owning a horse, the Introduction to Horses Short Course is where your journey of discovery should begin. Taught by Jim McDonald, AQHA Professional
Horseman, Certified CHA and Centered Riding Instructor, this course is designed to build foundational horsemanship knowledge and skills including the nature of the horse as prey animal, proper grooming, tacking and safe riding principles. While students will get hands on instruction using a live horse, students will not be riding a horse. Horse simulators will be used to build skills and confidence.
The first session begins on Saturday, June 22, and continues for the next three weeks after that. Each class is two hours in length, and takes place at the Baltimore County Center for Maryland Agriculture and Farm Park
in Cockeysville (NOTE: One class will include a field trip to a variety of horse farms). Classes are open to people aged 15 years and up. Those who complete the course will receive a coupon for 50% a riding lesson from a certified provider.
