GET OUT: Youngsters Show Off Prized Farm Animals

A guide to planning the weekend ahead.

Where/When: Baltimore County Center for Maryland Agriculture and Farm Park, Aug. 12, 3 to 8 p.m.; Aug. 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Baltimore County youth showcase their prized farm animals. Other activities include arts and crafts, photography and food.

2. Heirloom Vegetable Celebration 

Where/When: Cylburn Arboretum, Aug. 13, noon to 3 p.m. 

Why Go: Enter your best heirloom vegetables to be judged, swap seeds  and learn how to preserve your harvest with free classes and demonstrations.

3. Jazz in the Sculpture Garden 

Where/When: Baltimore Museum of Art, Aug. 13, 7 p.m. 

Why Go: Stroll through the BMA's sculpture garden with a glass of wine and enjoy the jazzy musical stylings of The Tim Green Quintet.

 4. Maryland State Bar-B-Que Bash 

Where/When: Bond and Thomas streets, Bel Air, Aug. 12, 4 to 10 p.m.; Aug. 13, noon to 10 p.m.

Why Go: Watch 50 teams from the mid-Atlantic compete for $12,500 prize money for the best finger lickin' barbeque.

5. Baltimore Improv Festival 

Where/When: The Patterson at the Creative Alliance, Aug. 11-14

Why Go: Working with audience suggestions, a troop will improvise a comedy script from scratch. Performers from some of the best improv comedy troops around the region will perform.
