Police: Man Attempts to Set Girlfriend on Fire

Suspect was arrested and charged with assault.

A 32-year-old Rosedale man was arrested and charged with attempted murder after he attempted to set his girlfriend on fire. 

Davon Whye, of the 1800 block of Weyburn Road, poured motor oil over his girlfriend, and attempted to light her on fire with matches, said Lt. Robert McCullough, a police spokesman.

The incident took place around 7:30 p.m. Sunday between Valley Frost Court and Pepperwood Drive in Cockeysville.

McCullough could not provide details about what precipitated the incident.

Whye faces seven charges, including attempted first-degree murder, two counts of assault, two counts of theft, false imprisonment and drug possession, according to court records.

He is being held without bail in the Baltimore County Detention Center.

A hearing is scheduled for July 8 in Towson.
