• 33-Year-Old Man Found Shot to Death Behind Wheel in Hyattsville Area (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A 33-year-old Adelphi man was found shot to death early Sunday in his vehicle on Lewisdale Drive in unincorporated Hyattsville, and county homicide detectives are now searching for whoever is responsible. Police have released few details about the circumstances or possible motive and are urging anyone who heard or saw anything near the 2200 block around 4:15 a.m. to contact investigators.
   

• How Terps Spent the Summer Doing Good in 2026 (umd.edu) — University of Maryland students spent the summer on service projects ranging from studying nighttime pollinators and biodiversity near Hyattsville to supporting veterans, global health efforts, and local youth. One entomology student also co-hosted "mothing" events in nearby University Park's native meadow, inviting local residents to explore nocturnal insects and learn about conservation just minutes from Hyattsville.
   

• Montgomery County Native Jordan Hawkins Headed to Memphis in Reported Trade (mocoshow.com) — Former DeMatha Catholic standout Jordan Hawkins, who played high school ball in Hyattsville after starring at Gaithersburg, is reportedly being traded from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Memphis Grizzlies. The Montgomery County native, a 2023 UConn national champion and Gatorade Maryland Player of the Year, has averaged 8 points per game through three NBA seasons.
