University United Methodist Church is hosting a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, from 7 pm to 8 pm at 3621 Campus Drive, College Park, MD 20740. Come partake of sausage, fruit salad, and all-you-can-eat pancakes. There will be a Free Will Offering. Come one come all to this big event. Shrove Tuesday is also known as Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras, literally means Fat Tuesday) as it is customary to eat pancakes on this day. Pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent because they were a way to use up rich foodstuffs such as eggs, milk and sugar, before fasting for the 40 days of Lent. Fasting emphasizes eating plain food and refraining from food that gives pleasure.
