Georgetown Prep Student Puts Homemade Car to the Test

The 'One Gallon Challenge' is a trip from New York to D.C.

After a year of hard work and finding donors, senior Rami Bedewi is ready for his homemade car to make its 240-mile-long debut.

Bedewi, a 17-year-old from Potomac, has built a gas-electric hybrid car that gets more than 200 miles per gallon, the Gazette reported. He's going to put it to the test on Jan. 30 in the self-named "One Gallon Challenge," in which he tries to get from New York City to Washington, D.C., on just a gallon of gas.

The car is made mostly of store-bought parts, according to the Gazette, but its frame and circuitry were designed and built by Bedewi.
