Government Buildings Reopen Today +Parents Concerned About School

Here's the latest on what's happening in Laurel, delivered straight to your inbox.

(Patch Media)

Happy Monday, people of Laurel! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather: Humid and partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 91 Low: 71.

Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:

  1. Governor Larry Hogan announced on August 28 that the State of Maryland has officially surpassed the major milestone of administering more than 7.5 million COVID-19 vaccinations. To date, Maryland has reported 7,502,652 vaccinations. Gov. Hogan said the vaccines are our "single most effective tool to mitigate the threat of COVID-19 and the surging Delta variant, and Maryland's vaccination rate continues to outpace the nation." (Maryland.gov)
  2. Children constitute a larger share of Maryland's COVID cases. For some parents, the threat of the Delta variant has created uncertainty about what they thought they knew about the virus' short and long-term risks. As schools prepare to open for in-person instruction, some parents are experiencing anxiety because of the news about COVID-19. They are concerned about sending their children back into schools at this time. (Baltimore Sun)
  3. Starting today, people will be able to enter government buildings in Prince George's County for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic set in. The indoor public mask mandate is still in effect at county buildings, so all employees and visitors will need to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. Those who do not wear a mask will be denied service. (WTOP)
