Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:
- A total of 88 horses were entered in nine races over a newly reconstructed main track as live racing makes its return to Laurel Park tomorrow (Sept. 9). Laurel Park's 59-day fall meet is scheduled to run through Dec. 31. Laurel's live program Thursday will be the first since a multi-million rebuilding of its dirt surface and an extended Preakness Meet at Pimlico Race Course ended Aug. 22. (Paulick Report)
- Governor Larry Hogan announced yesterday that according to official CDC data, 95% of Marylanders 65 and older have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. He said that Maryland is "one of the most vaccinated states in the country" that continues to "achieve significant milestones and outpace the national rates across the board." Therefore, he said that Marylanders "are much better prepared to withstand the Delta variant surge." (Maryland.gov)
- The Greenbelt, College Park, Prince George's Plaza and West Hyattsville Metro stations on the Yellow and Green lines have been closed since late May for restoration work under Metro's $15.5 billion, 10-year Capital Improvement Program. Free replacement shuttle buses ended Tuesday (Sept. 7) as the stations resumed service. (WTOP)
