Officer runs through grocery store to arrest man in attempted Laurel carjacking, video shows (wusa9.com) — Police in Laurel arrested a Silver Spring man after he allegedly robbed a woman, tried to carjack her, and then fled through an Aldi supermarket, all captured on body-camera video. Officers on the ground and a drone team coordinated to track him, follow him through the store, and make the arrest without injuries reported.

Maryland researchers tap snake heat-sensing proteins for low-power infrared sensors (thecooldown.com) — Scientists at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel are developing ultra-light, low-power infrared sensors modeled on snakes' heat-sensing proteins. Their work could eventually lead to compact thermal goggles and trip wires, using biological circuits that turn light into energy and convert tiny temperature changes into electrical signals, potentially influencing future defense and sensing technologies based in Maryland.
