Happy Friday, Laurel! Let's get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.

Mostly sunny and cool. High: 54 Low: 28.

Here are the top four stories in Laurel today:

  1. The Prince George's County Health Department is partnering with Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), to provide after-school vaccination clinics for individuals age five and older at 15 high schools. This event will start on Monday (Nov. 8). A list of mobile clinics operating at elementary schools will be provided soon. COVID-19 vaccinations at the school mobile clinics will be free and available to any eligible Prince George's County resident. (PGCPS)
  2. The U.S. Postal Service has announced several new stamps to be issued in 2022. USPS Stamp Services Director William Gicker said that these stamps are "miniature works of art, designed to be educational and appeal to collectors and pen pals around the world." The unique and colorful designs of the stamps celebrate American culture and history. More new stamp designs will be announced in the weeks and months ahead. (The Southern Maryland Chronicle)
  3. Maryland Municipal Election results are available for public viewing! According to unofficial results, Martin Mitchell, president of the Prince George's County Young Democrats, won an at-large seat with 57% of the vote. In Laurel Ward 1, incumbent Carl DeWalt and James Kole were declared the winners. In Laurel Ward 2, Keith R. Sydnor and Brencis Smith prevailed over challenger Jeffrey W. Smith. (Maryland Matters)
  4. Prince George's County leaders recently highlighted their efforts to preserve housing for working men and women who are unable to pay the region's sky-high rents. County Executive Angela Alsobrooks visited a Langley Park neighborhood, which includes a property of nearly 600 garden-style apartments, located about a half-mile from the future Purple Line light rail. The county's affordable housing program is ensuring that rents for nearly 300 of the homes will be kept at 60% of area median income for residents of moderate means. (WTOP)
