Flood Watch Remains, Tornado Warning Expires for Laurel

Severe weather is in the forecast.

While the tornado warning for Laurel has expired, the area remains under a flood watch until 8 p.m.

The flood watch means there is the potential for heavy rainfall, with 1 to 3 inches projected.

Previously, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Howard, Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties from approximately 1 to 1:30 p.m. Elkridge and Laurel were among the areas possibly impacted, according to Howard County government.

At 1:15 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was spotted near Laurel/Columbia, moving northeast at 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service advised taking cover on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, avoiding windows, and if outside, moving into the closest shelter away from flying debris.

At 1:30 p.m., the tornado warning expired.
