Get on up, Laurel! Here's everything you need to know to get this Friday started off right. Here's what's going on today in Laurel.

First, today's weather:

More clouds than sun. High: 67 Low: 52.

Here are the top four stories today in Laurel:

  1. Kenny Cox took out his trainer's license in 1987, the year after the Maryland Million was launched. He has not yet won a race at the event. Cox is hoping to change that this year in Saturday's $150,000 Classic at Laurel Park, with long shot Ain't Da Beer Cold, a 3-year-old gelding. The 1 1/8-mile Classic for 3-year-olds and up headlines a 12-race card featuring eight stakes and four starter stakes on 'Maryland's Day at the Races,' celebrating the progeny of stallions standing in the state. (Paulick Report)
  2. With a win at Saturday's Maryland Million Day, 4-year-old filly Hello Beautiful. It was a first-place finish in the Maryland Million Distaff which would be Hello Beautiful's third victory in the annual showcase of Maryland racing at Laurel Park. This made Hello Beautiful the seventh horse to win three of the event's races since it began in 1986. (CBS Baltimore)
  3. Governor Larry Hogan recently encouraged Marylanders to comment on the draft legislative and congressional maps published by the Maryland Citizens Redistricting Commission. The membership of the Citizens Commission is divided equally between Republicans, Democrats, and individuals not affiliated with either party. The Citizens Commission is now in its third round of public meetings. The commission has held 32 public meetings thus far, and has received more than 80 map submissions from the public. (Maryland.gov)
  4. Charges have been filed against the owner of several zebras that have been running around loose in Prince George's County since August. Three animal cruelty charges were filed Tuesday in Prince George's County District Court against Jerry Holly of Upper Marlboro. Holly has a herd of nearly 40 zebras on his property along Duley Station Road. The charges are: animals at large, cruelty, neglect and manner of keeping/nuisance. (WTOP)
