• UPDATE: Lexington Park Man Sentenced to 10 Days in Animal Cruelty Case Involving Abandoned Dogs (smnewsnet.com) — A 25-year-old Lexington Park resident has been sentenced in St. Mary’s County District Court after pleading guilty to animal cruelty involving neglected dogs at a Patuxent Road home. The case, built from two investigations in 2025, detailed unsanitary conditions, lack of water, and earlier reports of malnourished dogs, leading to a short jail term, suspended time, and three years of unsupervised probation.
   

• Ocean Ships Wins $1.11B Navy Contract for Worldwide Oceanographic Survey Vessel Support (clearancejobs.com) — A Lexington Park-based company, Avian Inc., has secured a $14 million Navy contract modification to continue engineering and program support for testing aircraft, drones, weapons, and related systems. Work will be carried out at nearby Patuxent River through April 2027, bringing more high-skilled defense testing and evaluation activity tied directly to Lexington Park’s workforce and local economy.
   

• Moms Score Free Entry at St. Mary's Museums May 10 (southernmarylandchronicle.com) — Moms from Lexington Park and across St. Mary’s County can enjoy free admission to Piney Point Lighthouse Museum on Mother’s Day, May 10, while the rest of the family pays regular rates. The county hopes the deal, plus free Old Jail Museum access, will draw local families to explore Southern Maryland history and waterfront views without breaking the budget.
