New Hunger Report Shows 31% Food Insecurity Rate in Montgomery County (mocoshow.com) — Food insecurity in Montgomery County, including Montgomery Village, has dipped from 35% to 31%, making it the only county in the D.C. region moving in the right direction, though need remains high. Local nonprofit Manna Food Center credits county investment and community partnerships, while warning that many families still struggle to balance food, housing, and medical costs, especially compared with sharply rising hunger in Prince George's County.
   

2. 3 teens arrested after student robbed inside high school bathroom in Montgomery County: Police (dcnewsnow.com) — A student was robbed at gunpoint in a bathroom at Northwest High School in Germantown, a short drive from Montgomery Village, and three nearby teens were later arrested after police recovered a loaded ghost gun in nearby woods. Two suspects, ages 17 and 18, face adult gun charges, while the 15-year-old accused robber is in juvenile detention as the investigation continues.
   

3. Spirit star to celebrate young local soccer standouts (mymcmedia.org) — Young soccer players from Montgomery Village can be nominated through Sept. 25 for a regional Home Team Heroes contest that rewards leadership, service, and sportsmanship. Two winners will earn $25,000 grants and two runners-up $10,000 grants for their nonprofit youth soccer organizations, giving local clubs a chance at major funding while spotlighting standout kids on and off the field.
   

4. 163-Unit Affordable Housing Development Opens Near North Bethesda Metro (mocoshow.com) — Montgomery Village residents looking for affordable housing near transit now have a new option with The Chimes, a 163‑unit income-restricted apartment building that just opened by the North Bethesda Metro. Backed by County loans, tax credits, and Amazon funding, the project offers a mix of studios to three-bedrooms for households earning 30%–80% of area median income, all within walking distance of major jobs and amenities.
